6 Stretches to Reduce Lower Back Pain

Six Beginner Yoga Stretches For Lower Back Pain

6 beginners stretches to help reduce lower back pain.

One of the most popular requests in my yoga and Pilates classes is to help relieve the lower back. There a many stretches we can do, but with our busy lives time can be an issue for some people.

In this 6-minute video, I demonstrate 6-best stretches to loosen tight sore lower back muscles. These stretches can help relieve back pain, improve spinal alignment, and release the hips.

When you stretch, remember to breathe slowly and evenly to help relax the mind and muscles. Never push hard in the stretches and take it to a level where you feel a little resistance and can deeply release and relax.

  1. Single knee to chest stretch.

  2. Hamstring stretch.

  3. Easy twist.

  4. Buttocks Stretch (Piriformis stretch).

  5. Side Ly Quad Stretch.

  6. Low lunge with Arm extended Stretch (Hip Flexors).

You can do these stretches for the lower back in bed in the mornings. Aim to do this stretch routine for a minimum of twice a day. If no improvement after 21 days, then seek professional advice.

The main causes of lower back pain just above the buttocks are muscle strain, sciatica, and herniated disc. Exercises and movements to avoid if you have back pain are forward bending, sit-ups, heavy lifting, twisting, running, and strenuous exercises. Be very cautious when picking something up from the floor, you must bend your knees.

You can reduce your risk of these back pains, by performing these stretches morning and night, plus strengthening your core.
