Standing Hip Stretches For Beginners

Unlock Your Hips | At-home Stretches

The hips are one of the most important joints in the body. Why?

The hips are a ball-and-socket joint and the foundation for everyday movements like walking, sitting, and squatting. The hips link the upper body with the lower body. They provide a stable base for the upper body and for the legs to move correctly, and support some of our internal organs.

What causes tight hips? Spending too much time sitting is the biggest cause of tight hips! Plus as we get older the hip joint naturally gets tighter and poor posture is another big factor.

Our hips are also connected with our emotional body and can store old emotions from our past when tight. The Psoas muscle is one of our hip flexor muscles being linked to the adrenal glands, sacral chakra, and our emotions!

Hip mobility is important for your overall health, especially once you reach over 40! Keeping your hips flexible and strong will help you reduce hip pains.

In this standing hip stretch video, Jodie demonstrates 6 important stretches to help with hip flexibility.

These standing hip stretches will help you stretch the hamstrings, hip flexors, lower back, front thighs (quads), and piriformis (deep glute muscle).

These hip stretches help you reduce lower back pains and hip issues. Great stretches for the hips for your morning practice to release tight hips and lower back.

No kneeling or sitting. Great for anyone with knee issues as it’s knee-friendly. Also great for sciatica relief when done daily.

Jodie modifies the forward bends to help anyone who has a prolapsed disc in the lower back. Always bend your knees deeply when you go into forward bends (spinal flexion) if you have lower back disc issues.

For the best results in releasing tight hips, stretch your hips 2-3 times a day to improve hip flexibility. This will help prevent injuries around the hips, lower back, and knees.

Important tips:
1. Move slowly and smoothly.
2. Focus on slow even breaths.
3. Bend your knees a lot if you have tight hamstrings, hips, lower back, or had herniated lower back disc issues.
