Pilates Exercises to Build Strength | over 50

Easy Pilates Exercises for Anyone Over 50

I know many people dread getting older, due to their aches and pains, lack of mobility, and body changes with age, but you can help all of this with correct exercise like Pilates.

It surprises me why I hear so many people comment why they have not tried Pilates, such as “I’m too old for Pilates” or “Pilates is only for women”. Well, I’m here to say Pilates is perfect for anyone over 50.

I’m in my 50s now and feel very thankful for my regular practice, as it’s helped me enjoy life more. Pilates has helped me with my hiking, camping, and now getting ready to build our own house! Yes, I still get up in the mornings feeling a little stiff, but I have learned to adapt and be more mindful of what is right for my body. Even my partner in his 50s knows how important strengthening the core has helped him with his work as a builder.

Why Pilates is Perfect for Over 50

  • Strengthen the core and back

  • Improve posture

  • Coordination and balance improve

  • Reduce incontinence

  • Reduce symptoms of arthritis

  • Reduce the risk of Osteoporosis

  • Stimulates the brain

  • Manage weight loss (with healthy eating)

  • Improve confidence and mobility

  • Reduce the risk of falls and injuries

So, maybe you are thinking “What’s the difference between Yoga and Pilates”?

In Kevala Pilates live online classes our main focus is strengthening the core, which includes the lower back, buttocks, front and side abdominals, and pelvic floor. You will also do simple mat work exercises for the legs, hips, and upper body. There is less meditation and stretching than in our live Yoga online classes, but we still do stretching throughout the pilates class to balance the body. Kevala Health Live Pilates classes also use the softball and resistant band, to add more resistance and fun!

We recommend at least two live Pilates classes a week and combine them with one or two live yoga classes. You can read more information here if you are a Pilates Beginner.

Check out our live-stream Pilates timetable here.

Or maybe you prefer a private one-on-one pilates personal training session in your home using Zoom virtual sessions for anyone living in Australia or worldwide.
