The Sacral Chakra, Water Element, and Winter
It’s Wintertime soon here in Australia, and this can be a time for some people to really feel cold, unbalanced, tight, unmotivated, or have lower energy. Our hips and lower backs can get tight and ache, as we move less during winter and feel unmotivated to do anything. Does this sound familiar?
What can you do, to feel healthier in Winter? Firstly it’s important to keep moving during wintertime and learn about sacral chakra yoga poses.
What is Sacral Chakra? Let me start with nature’s elements. There are five main elements according to Ayurveda science: earth, water, fire, air, and Ether (Space). We are all made up of these elements and more dominant in some. Each element correlates to a season, body part, and function. When we get to know these elements and how relate to our body parts, we create more balance and harmony. We also recognize when we are out of balance and take the steps to re-balance. The Water element is associated with Wintertime and is linked to the Sacral chakra.
The water element gives us the ability to “just go with the flow” in life and “adapt and change” with more ease, just like a river or ocean can move either slowly, fast, or around obstacles. Water is a powerful element and energy. We can’t live without water! Our bodies are made up of 70-80% of water, like our planet Earth. This is why the water element is an important element in life.
The sacral chakra (the second energy center in our body), is located below our navel and centered in the hips. This energy center focuses on the hips, lower back, bladder, and the health of our kidneys. When the Sacral Chakra is open and becomes a healthy Chakra center it floods with warm orange energy. We can also store old emotions in the hips, and suppressing these emotions only keeps us unbalanced and unhappy!
So, if you are prone to lower backaches or tightness in the hips or fearful of any emotions, then maybe it's time to learn more about the water element and Sacral chakra yoga poses. Not just in wintertime, but any time of the year is good.
In Kevala Health's live online yoga classes during June and July, we will be focusing on Sacral chakra health and the corresponding yoga poses, different breathing techniques, meditations for Sacral chakra, and mantras to help you balance the water element within. Building more courage to look within and to let go of what is holding you back. Learn how to support your own health by aligning yourself with nature’s elements. It’s really that easy.
